Response fields and types

The Ultimate Parent API returns one data object: the ultimate parent resolution.

It is split in two. The company you asked about is identified at the top level, and the outcome of the resolution sits under result.

📖

What the ultimate parent means

For what qualifies as ownership, which company is returned for a group, and how an independent company is reported, see How the Ultimate Parent API works.

The ultimate parent object

Returned by Retrieve ultimate parent.

Field name (key)TypeDescription
veridion_idstringUnique identifier assigned to the company you asked about within the Veridion universe.

This is not necessarily the identifier you supplied. A legacy UUID, or the identifier of a legal entity, resolves to the organisation's current Veridion ID, and that is what is returned here.
company_namestringThe most commonly used name when referring to the company you asked about; may either be its legal or commercial name.
resultJSON objectThe outcome of the resolution: the company at the top of the ownership chain, and what identifies it.
result.ultimate_parent_veridion_idstringUnique identifier assigned to the company at the top of the ownership chain. Use it to retrieve the parent's full profile from the Firmographics API, or as a grouping column to aggregate a portfolio by group.

Equals veridion_id where the company you asked about is the top of its own chain.
result.ultimate_parent_company_namestringThe registered name of the ultimate parent where one is on record, and the name most commonly used to refer to it otherwise. So this is often the fuller legal form of a name rather than the trading form.
result.ultimate_parent_website_domainstringThe website domain of the ultimate parent.
result.ultimate_parent_jurisdictionstringThe jurisdiction the ultimate parent belongs to, lower cased. A two-letter ISO country code, narrowed to a subdivision within that country where the subdivision is known: us-oh is Ohio in the United States, and us is the United States without a subdivision.

Do not assume a subdivision is present. Match on the country part where you need a value for every row.
